Blogging Goals for the Next 6 Months

Blogging Goals for the Next 6 Months

I’ve been blogging for over 6 months now.

Back in June 2016, I published my very first blog post. I’ve been on a roller coaster ride that is this blog ever since! There have certainly been ups and downs along the way. I published frequently over the summer and slowly started to lose momentum as the months went on. I got to a point where I was feeling worn out, like I was being pulled in too many directions all at once, and I seriously considered giving up this blog. Instead I let myself have a break, guilt-free, until I felt refreshed and inspired once more. Now I’m back at it and it’s like I’m starting from scratch. In an effort to avoid the problems I’ve faced in the past, I thought it would be a good idea to set some manageable blogging goals.

Goals for the next 6 months:

  1. Schedule time to write and publish at least twice per week. – I’m going to start using a planner to organize my work. In it I can keep a list of ideas, plan out blog posts and decide when they will be published, as well as set aside blocks of time to devote to writing. Posting at least 2 blog posts per week is doable. More is always a possibility. I don’t want to feel stressed about posting, or feel like I have to write a post just for the sake of publishing something. Quality over quantity.
  2. Participate in 2-4 link ups per week. – As soon as I discovered linkys, I was hooked! They are such a fun way to find new blogs to follow and interesting blog posts to read. Not to mention, it’s another way to get my own content out there. My only issue is that, if I link up my posts to too many linkys, I quickly get overwhelmed. I have to limit myself to just a few each week.
  3. Take better photos.– I really don’t know anything about photography! I use my iPhone to take all my pictures. Some come out better than others. I’m going to take some time to seriously work on my photos. There’s a course from The Great Courses about photography that’s available through my library, and it should get me started. Any tips would be appreciated!
  4. Create a dedicated work space for myself.– I’m already in the process of setting up a small area of my bedroom as a personal work space. Just for me! While we have a room we use as an office in our house, it’s really Mr. Musings’ domain. (In other words, it’s a mess!) I am creating a space that is minimalist, organized, and comfortable.

Something to work towards…

I may never get paid to write. And I can’t see myself running a super popular blog, with thousands of followers and millions of page views. (Although, that would be nice!) I’ve learned to not even bother checking my stats…it just doesn’t matter! My following is small and it consists mostly of my family and friends…(a big shout out to my #1 fan, my mother-in-law) but that’s OK! Nonetheless, these goals give me direction. They give me something to work towards, something to accomplish.

I’ve learned a lot since I hit “publish” on that first post. I’m proud of the work I’ve done. And I look forward to seeing what the future holds for my little piece of the blogging world…

  1. I fully agree with the stats thing. I became obsessed but I can’t even remember the last time I checked them. Even if no one reads it, it’s nice to get things off your chest sometimes and have it to look back on x

    1. I used to check them all the time and would feel so stressed out, constantly wondering how to get more views. But really, I didn’t start writing just to get blog views! I just wanted to write about life. It’s always nice when people are interested in what I have to say, of course!
